About AFF

The Austin Fly Fishers (AFF) is simply a group of folks who enjoy fly fishing. Whether you fly fish for perch in Lady Bird Lake, bass in the Llano River, redfish on the Gulf Coast, trout in the Rocky Mountains, or bonefish in the Bahamas, you will find members who share your interests. We are also a local chapter of Fly Fishers International (FFI).  Come join us at one of our monthly meetings and get to know us.  If you join our club, here are just a few of the benefits you will receive by becoming a member:

  • Monthly meetings with featured speakers at the Northwest Recreation Center on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm
  • Fly tying instruction preceding meetings at 6:00 pm
  • Casting instruction preceding meetings –daylight and weather permitting
  • Monthly newsletters
  • Outings to freshwater and saltwater destinations
  • Participation in conservation programs

AFF also raises funds for two programs:

  • The SKIFF program that takes the children of active duty military personnel on fishing trips for free
  • The Casting for Recovery program that provides semiannual fly fishing retreats for breast cancer survivors

Our Mission

The Austin Fly Fishers is a Charter Club of Fly Fishers International and falls under the FFI’s 501(c) (3) status. The club was formed in 1998 to provide a local meeting place for persons interested in fly fishing. Over the years, the club has promoted the sport of fly fishing, the education of its principals, and supported conservation of fishery resources in Central Texas.
